Gorilla Theodore

Theodore

Getting caught in snares is a significant health threat to wild mountain gorillas. Infants are especially vulnerable because they are curious and playful, like Theodore, an infant in the Humba mountain gorilla group in Virunga National Park, DR Congo. When Theodore got caught, Gorilla Doctors rushed to the forest to rescue him and treat his wounds while surrounded by his gorilla family. Theodore made a full recovery but we remain vigilant in the event we receive another emergency call!

Theodore's Story

Left hand swollen compared to right where the snare had been tightly wrapped around his arm causing swelling.

Kanyalire is the mother of Theodore, she is rejoining the group with Theo after the intervention.
